Thrift Store Queen

Dear all:

You may remember her from a feature of her and her boyfriend in an older post for winter-ish clothes, but Alejandra Muñoz will remain in my mind as the epitome of Alexa Chung's glamping.

Alexa Chung, whom Alejandra looks up to along with Obsessee., didn't necessarily coined the term "glamping," but she did use it to describe to writer Jane Keltner de Valle of Teen Vogue on set of 24 Hour Catwalk as "a way of dressing at music festivals...[that] employs a subversive high-low dressy-casual mix."

Thus, Alejandra's style definitely falls into Alexa's "glamping."

Alejandra usually shops at thrift shops, F21 and Urban Outfitters and finds styles at comfortable prices, but also, splurges when she feels the need to. She shops at the stores keeping the lookout for styles that give her a sense of individualism.

"I strive to look different from what you’ll typically see on the streets," she says. "Although I may not achieve that with every outfit, I always try to have something neat and quirky to give me that jolt of uniqueness—whether that be from my nail design to my iPhone case."

Alejandra purchased the floral dress at Savers for a mere $3; the flower ring at F21 for $1.50; her necklace at Urban Outfitters for $7; her black peep tow flats at Ross for $16.

When I asked where she got her lace blouse at Starbucks, she perked up and replied with, "Today." She explained how Savers has great deals on certain days, and yesterday (06/25), she found the lace shirt for 2 bucks. She got the high-waisted shorts at Goodwill for $4; her sandals at Urban Outfitters for $10, and the braided belt came as an accessory with a dress.

She described, "With both outfits I was trying to go for a summery, free, and fun vibe, so I guess the song “Lust For Life” by Girls would fit that. It’s an old one, but good one."

With the Arizona heat, it becomes incredibly hard to want to throw on anything other loose shorts and a t-shirt and bun -- at least for me. But Alejandra guides her style to adapt with the summer heat by sticking with loose dresses, high-waisted shorts, denim cutoffs, collard shirts and "a great pair of sunglasses."
Purse was purchased at Target!

"I'd probably wear the red dress if I were to go out with Nick on a date at night, "Alejandra describes. "The lace and shorts ensemble is definitely a daytime look for going to the mall or even a movie. I actually think I'm going to wear that dress for this on Friday."

She also said that she's a sucker for anything lace, but aren't we all?! I keep trying to convince my mom that it's a GREAT idea to purchase this beautiful/elegant/amazing navy blue lace dress that costs about $80 and its original price is about $200.

But I digress, these days, Alejandra has been reading and keeping up-to-date with Rookie Magazine, which was created  by a fashion blogger, Tavi Gevinson,  at age 15.

"It's the epitome of everything I love," Alejandra describes. "Oyster Mag is one of my favorites, as well."

Alejandra's adoration for Alexa Chung also drove her to designing her nails with either the Ying Yang symbol she sports or an eye symbol, as we saw before.

"I guess [Alexa's] nails were what really started me giving nail art a try. After that, I became aware of salons such as Kleur in Los Angeles and Disco Nails in Japan. Although I'm far from the masterpieces they create, I am still inspired by their designs and try to give my own rendition of them."

Alejandra will be attending Grand Canyon University and majoring in Digital Film with an emphasis in Screenwriting this fall, and in the process of attaining this degree, she will continue to be -- how she describe her style -- a Thrift Store Queen!

Love & Kitty-Cats,
Noemi
