Shopping can be pretty overwhelming for me, especially when everything in a store catches your attention and even when nothing does.
Over the past few months, I've developed somewhat of a quick set of rules for myself while clothes shopping I thought I'd share with you all.
I recently picked up a new ombre, sheer top from Ross, which I'll use as an example.
First of all, I prefer not to pick anything up until I've gone through most of the store at least once. This typically only works in smaller stores, otherwise you'll be in one store all day, which is alright if that's the plan.
Next, this is the process I go through with each piece I pick up:
1. Is it within my budget?
If the answer is no, I almost always --a splurge is okay here and then as long as it follows the rest of the rules-- just put it back.
2. Do I already own other pieces to pair it with?
I like to be able to come up with at least two complete outfits in my mind before moving onto the next rule. Unless it is within your budget to buy something else to match immediately--not next week or the following--I recommend putting it back.
3. Does your closet really need this?
Sure it's easy to come up with two other outfits if you already own a piece almost identical to it.
There you have it. This how most of my shopping trips go. Sometimes I follow all of them, sometimes I don't, and sometimes I walk out of a store empty handed which is completely okay.
Hopefully this can be of some help to you!

- This blouse was under $20, so yes.

- The top already has so much going on that a simple pair of pants or jeans would do just fine. I instantly thought of my grayish, brown jeggings paired with my nude and gold flats. I also thought of wearing it over a beige tank dress I don't wear often because it's so revealing. The gold accents wouldn't call for much jewelery, but I have a blue ring that would match perfectly.
3. Does your closet really need this?

- Had this just been a plain beige or plain blue sheer blouse, the answer would be a quick no. My closet really doesn't need any more sheer anything, to be honest, but it did need some more ombre, color blocking pieces. Plus, the back is killer.
Hopefully this can be of some help to you!
