"From what I've seen/ You're just one more hand me down/ Cause no ones tried to give you what you need/ So lay all your troubles down/ I am with you/ Somebody ought to take you in/ Try to make you love again/ Try to make you like the way they feel/ When they're under your skin/" - Matchbox Twenty, Hand Me Down
There you have it. Everything I intended on saying about my hunter green Elie Tahari blazer. Don't know who the designer Elie Tahari is? Here's a link: http://www.elietahari.com/ Don't get carried away, silly. I didn't pay over $300 for it.
Rob Thomas from Matchbox 20 solemnly sings about a "hand me down" individual...but in the chorus, I like to think he is singing about my probably overly-priced, handsome hunter green blazer that has kept me warm in San Francisco weather, but most importantly, didn't cost me a penny, just a simple note of gratification.
Although my words about the glorious nature of hand-me down garments won't be as eloquently putted as Rob Thomas' are in his song, then I'd like to share a phrase commonly sung by Winnie the Pooh: Sharing is Caring. And I like to believe that hand-me-downs may just be a tiny contributor for making the world go around (or like The Weepies sing, "The world Spins Madly On").
The original owner probably wore the blazer no more than three times (just a guess). I've worn it about four times, not gonna lie. It hangs in my closet until the next Arizona winter drags the sun away, and when I'm under the skin of my hunter green blazer, I want to show the world the eccentric beauty its Peter Pan nature is all about. I'm proud of wearing it. I'm proud of feeling like Wendy Darling would when she got to experience Peter's world. But most of all, I'm proud of being an owner of multiple hand-me-down garments that either my sister or relatives spent a fortune on, and I only have to spend a simple and honest "thank you".
Boast your hand-me-downs!
Also, the shirt I'm wearing under the blazer was purchased at Charlotte Russe for only $5. Patience pays off. It's a light pearl color, silk in nature, and has various shades of blue flowers all around. The sleeves are something else, as well. Unfortunately, you can't really see them in these pictures.
My messenger bag is Steve Madden, and instead of paying the original $100 price, I payed about $49 at Ross for it. My glittery flats are a purchase from Payless, bought for only $20. These babies were a bargain. I was almost, ALMOST going to fall for similar (when I say similar, I mean the same) flats from Bakers for about $60. Thanks to my savvy mother, I bargained.
My hair is a contribution from all the rain that Arizona had during this time...this was about a month ago.
Sorry for not posting this sooner!
