Hey y'all (I'm currently watching Nashville; oh, yeah):

Anywho, I put this video together quickly to show you an awesome simple trick to get super curly eyelashes with a very accessible tool: a spoon! It cuts off briefly, but eh, you'll get the point. I hope you night owls enjoy :)

Summer skirt, December Child

Arizona weather is always something to talk about. As of late, we've had a 180 turn from warm lovely weather to chilled winter weather.

So what better way to indulge in such weather than to take a favorite summer piece and work around it to complete a warm and cozy ensemble than to write about it and hopefully ignite a spark of inspiration somewhere across the world.

The cool thing about having an older sister is that she gives you the clothes she doesn't enjoy anymore.

The sweater I'm wearing here is one of those pieces she gave to me. She got it at Wet Seal for  FIVE DOLLARS. Definitely poke around that store next time you're there.

The skirt -- Oh, my skirt, how I adore you. -- I got at Target and is one of those pieces that I posted about several time during August and the hot months.

I tucked in the sweater, added some pantyhose and my Target boots, and voila! I had myself the perfect, cozy and warm outfit for the chilly weather.

I am also sporting my DIY Chevron bracelet! Check out the ads on the right side of this post and click on the Honestly WTF photo for a tutorial on how to make your own.

Peace out (I'm gonna eat some pizza, have un chocolat chaud et watch Buffy the Vamp. Slayer...instead of studying for my final),

A Chatoyant Creation: Nail Polish Storage

Let's start out with the obvious: I love nail polish. Until just the other day, I was storing my 40+ collection in a small, pink basket, which made for great decoration on my dresser but finding the color I wanted when I wanted was a pain.
Then I ran into this neat idea over at The Beauty Department. It's super easy to make and makes finding colors a breeze. Also, I read that it's important to keep nail polish bottles upright so the pigments are easier to shake back together.

Here's what you'll need:
  • Some sort of box (I went with a shoe box that held my oxfords because it's big enough for my current collection and what's to come without being too obnoxiously large only to encourage this expensive addiction of nail polish.)
  • Wrapping paper or magazines (Optional)
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • White Mailing labels (It's important that these are white or you won't get the real color of the polish.)
  • Hole puncher

  1. Wrap and decorate your box. This part is completely optional and customizable. You may have a cute box that's cute as is. I opted for hot pink wrapping paper I picked up at a dollar store. I also considered adding some magazine cut-outs, but once I had the box wrapped decided not to.
  2. Paint small portions of the label with each polish. You want this to be about the size of the hole puncher you're using. I chose to also label each stroke of color with their appropriate name and separated my collection into groups of 8 as to not confuse which label went with which bottle.
  3. Punch out each color label and apply to the top of its appropriate bottle. Make sure your labels are dry when you do this or you'll end up with a messy project and hole puncher!
  4. Fill up your box!
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Since I already had most of these supplies at home, this ended up costing me a mere $4!
I might decorate my box some more in the future, but for now, I am really content with the results.
Let me know if you try it or how you store your nail polish!

DIY: 'Reject' Outfit

Concert photos taken by Gabee!

There's this magazine that a friend who we've featured here works for and they're currently hiring, and I really want to write for them and pitch the idea of a what not to wear/what to wear tutorial-sort-of-a-thing for concerts.

But I thought that for now I would just share some tips as to how to equip yourself for that hope-to-be-amazing concert that has you staying up late Googling everything about the artist you'll be seeing.

A month ago, I came to terms that I wasn't going to go to the All American Rejects concert. I had met the guys before during my braces years (14ish), but never had I seen them in concert.

Then, Gabee sent me a message saying, "What if we say screw everything and go to the AAR concert next week?" *Actually, I don't know if she sent that word for word

But yeah...I was just really excited and I wasn't sure what to expect. I just knew I wanted to look nice while singing at the top of my lungs to the set list, which I did, and I like to think Tyson appreciated it because I SWEAR he made eye contact with me at the end of one of the songs and bowed to me.

There is just something special about how their lyrics, like Le Petite Prince, can resonate within you making a thousand fleeting moments pass you by, making you experience heartache and happiness all at the same time.

I'm still in awe of his passion. And how beautiful they all are. As you can tell with all my rambling!

But now to the outfit!

Heels or No Heels --

I'm considered above average in the US, being 5'6'', and height can be a huge benefit at standing concerts.

I wore my 1 1/2 inch boots from Target because I just really like them, but when I got there I realized that I had made a brilliant choice over my blue oxfords but also a slight mistake.

Before AAR came on, Gabee and I were standing behind two people, the area that would be considered the third row, and there was a young boy who was half an inch shorter than I am,so with my boots I was able to oversee everything, BUT my knees and back were killing me by the time AAR started playing.

I actually got a bruise under my left knee I think from all the pressure I was putting the 2 hours before the concert started.

So there are pros and cons to the heel question.

If you're at lest 5'7'', go with sneakers, oxfords but NOT flats. At rock concerts, the crowd tends to go wild. I actually lost my new pair of pink moccasins at The Maine and Rocket to the Moon concert a few years back. It made the night memorable, but I came out short of one shoe. Plus, people kept stepping on me.

Makeup or Bonne Natural --

I actually don't wear makeup, but as of late, I've fallen for Gabee's Revlon Lip Butter in Raspberry Pie.

I absolutely adore it. I definitely recommend wearing a red shade of lip butter/lipstick. It has that genuine rock flare to it and makes your entire look seem classy.

For mascara and eyeliner: Wear the kind that is waterproof. By the end of the concert, you'll be beyond sweaty and you may inadvertently smear it.

What to wear --

Before I say anything else: Choose to go with whatever is a size too big for you and pair it off with dark bottoms, some flat boots, or heeled boots or heeled shoes or those grungy sneakers that simply fill your life with happiness! It works magic. I think Stephanie does a wonderful job showcasing what I mean with her first blazer look here.

You can find a myriad of sites with sources of concert outfit inspirations, but some of them, for me, are too glamorous or too Spring for the look that most of us want to achieve.

TANGENT: Turns out Tyson and I have similar tastes in clothing. He was sporting his denim/ leather-sleeve jacket while I was wearing my denim button up.

For any concert, black jeggings/black pants are the way to go if you're having trouble. Like Gabee said, when in doubt, choose black.

By wearing black, you create space for signature layering. I had to be at school early in the morning and had too much to do before the concert, so I went with a basic lace cami with black jeggings paired with my brown boots and denim button up with straightened hair.

Gabee went with black bottoms (or dark bottoms) topped off with her Saved by the Bell T-shirt and a bun with coral lip butter.

Many girls also went with dark skinny bottoms and t-shirts with some sort of logo on them that just had that cool-esque to them. Others went with leggings topped with below the waist loose shirts and messy pony tails or curled/wavy hair.

Comfort over Glamour --

The answer is always comfort then complement your comforting look with some glorious accessories. Be a kid in the street and relax (see what I did there?)!

Hope this helps in some way! Or, hope it was just a good read. xx, @NoemiPossible

Estonian Princess

Meet Piia: A high school student with an an impeccable hand for accessible fashion. Hoping to move on to the university and maybe study journalism afterwards, Piia currently is living in the capital of Estonia, Tallinn - located in north-eastern Europe.

Piia has an amazing blog that she started three years ago where she features her OOTD with the help of one of her photographer friends (the photos of Piia were a contribution of hers to this post). Go check it out, you won't be disappointed: Bowtie Diary.

Over a year ago, Gabee and I decided that we wanted to start our own blog featuring accessible fashion through people-features where, hopefully, others could gather some inspiration from those features.

At the time that Gabee and I came to this conclusion, we were on vacation in California - whether it's something about the West coast or not, we decided that we loved fashion but we wanted to be able to look utterly rich in very affordable clothes. That's where Piia comes in. Gabee presented me to her blog, and she had me at "Bowtie Diary." We, therefore, used her blog as a foundation for ours, gathering ideas and generating new ones through a variety of sources but mainly through hers.

We came into contact with Piia about a month ago and asked her if she would participate in a Q&A with us, and she agreed. I was seriously doing some mental twirls and cartwheels in my mind!

Please enjoy the Q&A with Piia, her photos, her outfit, and make sure to check her blog out HERE (blog), HERE (FB) and HERE (Lookbook)!

----

Q: ♥ Who inspired your outfit? Or, how did you go about deciding how to pair the outfit?

A: The main inspiration for this outfit was the bitten apple necklace from an online shop called

Rings&Tings. Since I received it a bit before Halloween, I thought that it would be fun to build

my outfit around that and go for a Snow-White look. With the black and white colors, I think it

all came together quite well, with the necklace being a small, but important detail.

Q: ♥ Where do you shop? Where did you purchase each item from your outfit? How much was
each item? Which one item was your best bargain?

A: Mostly I shop at thrift stores, because as a student, I’m always on a budget. There are a few

shops in my hometown that aren’t ridiculously overpriced, where I go too. Sadly we don’t have
the big international retailers and the closest H&M is in Helsinki. But on my trip there and to
Sweden I almost always buy something from H&M or Gina Tricot. Sometimes I like to make
myself something too, whether it is a simpler skirt or a piece of jewellery or just adding little
details to something.

Outfit details:
Sweater- thrifted – 3,5 € [~$4]
Dress- thrifted, but actually from Zara- 1,2 € [~$3]
Necklace- gifted by Rings&Tings, but costs 3,5 £ [~$5]
Boots- are by Tamaris and belong to my mother. As for the price, I have no idea, but I guess they
were about 35 € [~$44]

I think that my favorite item is the sweater, although the dress is a spectacular bargain too. But
the sweater has a really nice fit, is extremely versatile and classic and I can see myself wearing it
all through the winter.

Q: Define your style in 3 words:

A: Preppy, feminine, affordable.

Q: ♥ Tell me a little bit about yourself (school, major/study, future goals, why are you majoring/studying that, where you’re from)?

a: I live in a small country in Europe, called Estonia. I’m from the capital, Tallinn, which is a town
with rich history and beautiful sights. I’m currently a high school student, but plan to go to university next year. It would be pretty awesome to study journalism, I’ve kind of started to like
the field as a possible career option.

As for hobbies, then blogging and an interest in fashion (does it even need to be mentioned?!), I also play badminton, love to cook (and eat!) and try to keep fit and do a normal amount of
sports regularly.

Q: ♥ If your outfit could sing, which song would it be singing? Why so?

A: “Wake me up before you go-go”. Pretty obvious, considering the Snow-White theme.

Q: ♥ Tell me about your blog: why did you start it, what would you like to get out of blogging, what would you like your readers to get out of your blog?

A: I don’t really remember why I started my blog almost three years ago. I think it might have been because of the inspiration I got from a few blogs I followed and wanted to share my style and thoughts too. It’s amazing how little I knew about fashion and blogging then and how much I've learnt with that time.

It would be awesome if my readers would be inspired to wear something because I wore it, or
try something new because they saw it on my blog, but if they’re not, that’s OK too. I love to
have people reading about what I do and what I wear and I appreciate every single one of them for that.

Q: ♥ What is your favorite latest trend and how do you make it your own?

A: I absolutely love plaid. There’s something so British about the print that I’m instantly pulled
towards it. My ultimate wishlist item is a pair of plaid paints, but I’d absolutely love to have a
plaid coat, boots, umbrella…(all very British items of clothing, no?).

p.s. If anyone knows, where to get a cool pair of budget-friendly plaid jeans, I’d be so grateful!

Q: ♥ Where would you wear the outfit? (i.e. night out with the girls, date night, café)

A: Well, I wore it to school, but it would work very well at a casual party, a café date and pretty
much every casual-dressing place you want to go to.

Make sure to give this "like" a post and to check out Piia's blog!

Wearing the Peter Pan Collar

Maude Adams as Peter Pan
We've shown you how to create your own Peter Pan collar, so I figured I'd show you how I typically wear the two I made.
First though, I thought I'd share a fun, somewhat educational, fact about the Peter Pan collar. Despite its name, it doesn't have much to do with J.M Barrie's or Disney's character who in fact does not wear this type of collar. The name became synonymous with the character after Maude Adams' theatrical performance in Peter Pan in the early 1900s!
The collar has since been seen in a lot of children's clothes and, as of lately, on fashionable celebrities, such as Rachel Bilson and Alexa Chung , in different colors and styles.

Here is how I wear the ones I made:
The first is the one we showed y'all how to make. Because of the green and blue beads, I like to wear it with similar colors or something creamy. I've also worn it with a simple white tank and black jeggings to glam up the look a bit.

The next one I made using the same fabric from the sleeves I cut off from the dress. I simply added extra pieces of fabric at the end of the collar to give it some definition as it somewhat blends in with the dress. This is the only way I've worn this one, but I can definitely see myself wearing it with a simple black top or dress.

Thank you for reading, and if you try out our DIY, make sure to send us pictures of your results by posting on our Facebook page or via Twitter!
Hope you all had a lovely weekend.<3

A Chatoyant Creation: Peter Pan Collar

Hi kitty cats, today we're introducing a new segment aptly named "A Chatoyant Diary Creation" for do it yourself (DIY) projects we think you may be interested in. Also please excuse the quality of the images on this one. We tried making it a video, but turns out it's a lot harder to edit one than expected. Enjoy!
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The peter pan collar has been making its way into fashion for quite sometime now, but this fall, it is establishing itself to be a huge must-have. You can go out and buy yourself a new top or dress that already comes with a collar or even a just the collar, but here at Chatoyant, we believe in frugality so we are teaching you how to make your own to add to pieces you already own thus saving you a few bucks.
All the supplies can be found at your local crafts store and should total to about $15-20. Now that may seem a bit pricey, but you are definitely getting a bang for your buck as this is enough material for at least five collars depending on how much fabric you have-- we used the fabric we bought along with other scraps we found laying around. Doing this with a friend and splitting the cost is a good idea!

What you'll need:

  • Some sort of template for your collar. You may create your own or you may use this one from Honestly WTF.
  • Sewing or embellishment glue
  • Scissors or a fabric cutter
  • Beading and/or gems in the size and color of your choice
  • Thread and needle
  • Fabric--enough for your template
  • Ribbon
  • Buttons (optional)

1 and 2: Cut out your template and trace it onto your fabric. Make sure the pencil or marker you use is safe to use on the fabric. Then cut the traced portion.
3 and 4: Carefully add enough glue for the thickness you want your beads to be and place your beads. I added about a an inch long amount of glue at a time to avoid it drying out. This is the lengthiest part of  the DIY, but it might depend on the person (Took me, Gabee, about an hour as opposed to taking Noemi about 10 minutes).
5. Measure ribbon around your neck approximately an inch or two longer to where you want your collar to sit and cut it in half. Next, sew and/or glue (I did both) each strand to the back of each piece of the collar.
6. Connect both pieces of your collar. You can do this by simply sewing and/or gluing (Again, I did both) the two together. You may also choose to use a button to connect the two.
7. TADA! You have your perfect fall accessory!

Denim, Denim, and Not So Much Makeup: Summer Edition

Back in September, I posted Denim, Denim, and Makeup, which consisted of a pretty simple denim button-up and black denim shorts. Yesterday, I found myself wearing a pretty similar outfit with a much more summer feel, so I though it'd be fun to do a little post about it.

The top is actually the same, I just removed the sleeves a while back when it started getting warmer. Honestly. I love this top. I wore so often in the cooler weather, and now, it's summer friendly so I can continue using it.

The lavender shorts, in trend with all things color and pastel, add a refreshing summer look as opposed to the black shorts I wore back in the fall. I bought these online at Forever 21 for my birthday, and unfortunately, they fit a bit loose so I have to belt them.
The belt is from Kohl's.

Another difference from this look and the previous one is my necklace. In the other look, I went with a pearl necklace to add a bit of sophistication to an otherwise very casual outfit. This time, I wanted a very casual look, so I went with a simple music note necklace from Target.

As far as makeup is concerned for this look, I kept it very simple. I'm wearing a creamy eyeshadow with a slight purple tint because I wanted a more toned down look. My nails, however, are completely different.
I absolutely love the whole bright color current trend and I love showing it through my nails even more.

My favorite nail polish currently is Wet n Wild's Megalast in "I Need a Refresh-Mint". The color is gorgeous and it lasts just long enough until I want to try a new combination. I did glitter as an accent nail --Wet n Wild's Wild Shine in "Sparked" (courtesy of our good friend Lynda's couponing which we shall feature very soon!).

Shirt: Target $15 or $20
Shorts: Forever 21 $13.50
Belt: Kohl's $1.98
Necklace: Target $10
Blue Nail Polish: Walgreens $1.99 (bought as part of a buy 2 get 1 free promotion)
Glitter Nail Polish: CVS $0 ($0.99 without a dandy coupon)

A World of Frugality

Sarah Munguia, 18, is currently a freshman
studying Business Law at the W.P. Carey
School of Business at Ariz. State Univ.

Raised by a frugal mother, Sarah certainly considers herself a savvy shopper.

While she desrcibed  the ideas of frugality that her mom taught her to perserve, Sarah posed a look of nostalgia as she recalled the days she shopped with her mom. "My momma has always been a savvy shopper and taught me to go o the sales rack first. She instilled frugality within me," Sarah said.

Most struggle to avoid succumbing to overly priced items; however, Sarah has developed a nifty method for avoiding these situations.

"I never spend mopre than $15 on a shirt -- everything has to be under $15," she said. "I don't just buy things out of random; I look at the price first, and [even] if I really want it, I convince myself to put it back."
Not only is Sarah penny-wise, but she also puts forth her creativity in creating newer, up-to-date looks with her older clothes. The shorts she is pictured in were originally bermudas which she cut herself. Her wardrobe consists of other DIY projects as simply as sleeveless shirts and blouses.

"I usually try to do [a simple look], but it doesn't come out that way. At least I don't think so."

"It's like a sophisticated bohemian," Sarah says, describing her style. "Well, I like things that are flowy. First of all, it's really hot [in Ariz.], so flowy is weather-smart. Over the course of six months I began to appreciate my belts collection and I started tucking my shirts in to show off my belts."

Sarah finds her clothes at Marshall's, Sears, Papaya, and occassionally Forever 21. Without further ado, the following list states the various prices for Sarah's outfit and the stores where the garments may be found:
Tank top - Found at Sears for $4 at the clearance rack, original price being $24
Shorts/bermudas - Found at Mervyns for about $10-15
Cushioned Flats - Sam's Club for $9-11
Bracelet - Her mom bought it at a shop in Mexico
Nail Polish - Unknown brand for $2 (Sarah describes it as a ruby red color.)
